- Worked with the City of Cape Coral to develop a Local Contractors Preference Ordinance.
- Monitored
impact fee increases and eliminated or reduced them on almost every
occasion. It is estimated that a savings of $4,000 per new home has been
realized over the past several years.
- Prepared and facilitated an ordinance allowing boat lifts to be constructed at canal ends.
- Monitors
and assists in bringing road projects to our area, including the the
widening of SR78, the extension of Burnt Store Road, Veterans Parkway
and the Del Prado Extension.
- Continually monitors and meets with
the Building Department to look for ways to streamline permitting, plans
review and inspections. Successes include checklists for inspectors and
courtesy calls from plans review.
- Reduced side and front setbacks on residential construction.
- Fought (and won) a moratorium that would stop permitting 500 feet on either side of Burnt Store Road.
- Works with local schools to promote the construction industry as a career choice.
- Monitors
and works with the City on long term growth issues, such as location of
model homes, commercial nodes, and land use changes.
- Produces the Builders' Showcase each year, where model and spec homes are toured by thousands of residents and visitors.
- Educates
its membership to changes in local, state and national regulations.
Examples include pool safety requirements, FEMA issues, and the new
Florida Building Code.
- Stopped an effort to require separate plumbing, mechanical and electrical plans on every single-family permit request.
- Participates
in a program with the Cape Coral Police Department and the Lee County
Sheriff's Office in reducing construction site theft.
- Continues to work with the marine construction industry to monitor and inform on progress within the Manatee Lawsuit Settlement.
- Continues
to monitor at the local, state and federal levels any regulations
dealing with endangered species such as Scrub Jays, Smalltooth Sawfish
and Manatees.
- Worked with the City's Stormwater Department on driveways, resulting in elimination of the form check.
- Continue to work cooperatively with the City of Cape Coral on issues regarding drainage (new construction vs. existing.)
